I’m Marco, founder of WeAreLyra. We’re evaluating MetaMask Embedded Wallets as the key management layer for a non-custodial consumer mobile app aimed at European users.
One technical question first, since it’s the open point on our side:
Does the Embedded Wallets key infrastructure support secp256k1 derivation for Bitcoin address types (P2WPKH / P2TR) today, or is chain coverage limited to EVM, Solana and the chains listed in the docs? Consensys stated at the time of the Web3Auth acquisition that non-EVM support including Bitcoin would be accelerated — I’d like to know whether that applies to the developer product or only to the MetaMask consumer wallet.
Second, a routing question. We’ve already been in contact with the commercial team, but our evaluation runs as a structured written technical process, and we’d prefer to complete it in writing before any call. Could someone point me to the right contact or team for an Embedded Wallets infrastructure evaluation, ideally over email?
Thanks for reaching out. To answer your questions:
Embedded Wallets is blockchain-agnostic, but native SDK support is EVM + Solana, Bitcoin has a dedicated integration path. The docs don’t cover developer-facing secp256k1/BIP-84 P2WPKH or BIP-86 P2TR derivation APIs.
MetaMask consumer Wallet supports Bitcoin, including native SegWit; Taproot was announced as coming later. That doesn’t establish equivalent Embedded Wallets key-derivation support.
For the written evaluation, use the official Embedded Wallets “Talk to us” route and request Embedded Wallets technical/product engineering. Enterprise explicitly includes dedicated technical support.
Thanks Shana, that’s exactly the distinction I needed — consumer Wallet support doesn’t carry over to Embedded Wallets key derivation.
One follow-up on the first point: what does the dedicated Bitcoin integration path involve in practice? Is it an existing capability that simply isn’t documented, or does it require custom work on our side?
I followed the Talk to us route, but it leads to a 30-minute sales meeting booking with the same contact I’d already been through without getting written answers. Is there any route to Embedded Wallets technical or product engineering that works in writing? Written answers are what I can build an evaluation on.
One more thing I noticed while I was there. The Embedded Wallets product page states that the infrastructure works across every popular blockchain network — EVM, Solana, Bitcoin, and more — and Bitcoin is listed among the supported chains. That reads differently from what you described. Which of the two reflects what a developer can build on today?
